1. Students watched a 16 minute documentary called Home Base: A Chinatown called Heinlenville. 2. We discussed how their lives were similar to and different from the lives of children living in Heinlenville. 3. Students watched Sony Bravia's stop motion animation of bunnies hopping and transforming on the streets of New York. They also watched the making of video. This gave them an idea of what stopmotion truly is. 4. Students created flip sticks, two frame animations as an introduction to animation and frame rate.
Mrs. Weber gave me a great tip. I have been using wooden chopsticks for the handles of my flip sticks. She has used straws (rounder and cheaper!) and she showed me a bat flip stick that was larger than the ones I make. It was more effective and visible from a distance. In the future I will create larger image flip sticks and use straws!
